I found directions here and went to pick out my fabric to make this cute little case. I made a few changes and modifications of my own for a little extra 'padding' as well as decoration.
Anyone who knows me knows that my absolute favorite color is green (have you seen my car?!) so I knew that I wanted green to be present in my fabric. I also wanted 5 different patterns for the outside 'patches' and then a brighter, fun pattern for the inside. I got all my fabric from the 'scrap' section in the store, so they were really inexpensive. Here are the fabrics I picked for the patches:
And to go with my fabric, obviously I was going to throw in some crazy bright green thread! :)
I cut out my squares and pressed them out flat. Then I followed the directions on the website sewing the pieces together and pressing the seams as needed. Once all the squares were sewn together, I trimmed the piece down to the appropriate size and did a simple quilting onto some wool batting but just outlining the fabric seems.
Then it was time to add my FUN inside fabric: a bright pink with giant squiggly flowers with blues and greens to match, but also some other shades of pink to liven things up.
After sewing everything together, turning it right-side out and sewing the edges together to keep it in the shape I wanted, I found a big, dark pink button to sew on the front which really tied the colors together even more.
I'm very happy with how it turned out, especially for being my FIRST 'big' project on my sewing machine! Now I can bring my Kindle with me and not worry about it breaking or getting scratched up. It also excites me to see what other fun things I can find to make :)
