Goin' Fishin'

On July 13th AJ and my step dad, Alan, went up to Ames for the Iowa Straw Poll. My mom and I did not want to go because we aren't as interested in politics as they are, so we were more than happy that they could go together so that we didn't have to be drug along as well!

While the men were out doing their thing, my mom and I did a little shopping to knock a few things off the Christmas list (it's only 4 months away!) and use the discount coupons we had. We then got the groceries that were needed for family dinner the next day since Jenifer and Jessup were in town from California and headed home. Of course we did not realize it until we pulled into the driveway that we did not have a key to get into the house. Did I mention we just got groceries? :P After much thinking and inspection of the open windows, we found a screen to pop out and I had to find a 5 gallon bucket to stand on so that I could climb into the window to unlock the door. Thankfully we were able to get in, otherwise we may have needed to make another trip to replace the 'cold item' groceries that were sitting in my car! My mom and I got dinner started so that it would be ready when the boys returned home, and we sat out on the front porch and looked like the typical Iowans getting our corn cleaned off and ready to cook :) We also had 2 little monsters who thought they wanted to join us in the process, but we figured it would be better for them to stay inside and just watch.

After dinner we all headed out to the cabin to clean it out and also go fishing! The temperature was absolutely perfect, and the water on the pond was almost calm. Definitely a great night for fishing!

We brought Tilly and Charlie along so they could run wild (since they can't do that at home where we live!) and they LOVED it! They were running, running, running...chasing each other, running laps around the pond, and rolling in any nasty thing they could find. Needless to say, they both got baths when we got back to the house that night!

I've always wondered if our dogs would swim if they were in the pond because they never actually go into the water. AJ said he would help Tilly out by tossing her off the dock and we could see what happened. Obviously I wasn't too fond of this idea, but it did make for an entertaining visual :)

At the end of the night, Alan caught 2 bass, AJ caught 2 bluegill, and I got 2 bluegill and was almost pulled into the pond by a bass that grabbed onto my hook but ended up getting away right before I almost had him pulled to shore because he snapped my hook in half! What a beast! And since I didn't "technically" get him to shore, he didn't get to count in my fish numbers so I was even with the guys on the number of fish I caught...maybe next time ;)

Our night ended with the fish deciding they were no longer hungry, and the moon came up in it's fullness. It was a beautiful evening enjoying what our Creator has so graciously blessed us with! :)
