Chicago Trip

To celebrate Axton's return home, we decided to make a weekend trip to Chicago the weekend of July 22-24. It was also the perfect time to break in my new car and see just how good of gas milage we could actually get out of her! :)

We left on Friday, and thankfully we arrived around 9pm that night and beat the storm that was brewing in the skies. We woke up the next morning to discover that Chicago was dumped on 5.5 inches of rain per hour while we slept, leaving the freeways flooding out cars and temporarily stopping the train until the water levels went back down. We were a little concerned that we might not be able to make it to the baseball game at Wrigley field if the train was not running, but thankfully the water had gone down enough by the time we needed to leave :)

While we were in Chicago we went to the Cubs game because Axton had never been to Wrigley field before, and the last time I had been there was for my senior class trip back in 2006. Thankfully there were still rain clouds in the sky so we did not have to sit in the 100 degree temperatures and just roast like we did at the St. Louis Cardinals game a month previous! It was still pretty humid though so we did not mind the occasional sprinkles the clouds would drop.

After the game we went downtown to walk around for a few hours, and of course we had dinner at the Rainforest Cafe to satisfy my awesome frog obsession :P Needless to say, we sat right in front of the gorillas and those simulated storms where they went crazy got old REAL fast!

Even though it was a quick visit, it was definitely worth being able to spend time together as just the two of us knowing we didn't have to think about him having to leave again :)
