AJ made it safely down to camp Shelby in Mississippi Saturday morning. He said it's pretty hot down there and the humidity is crazy. Unfortunately the first barrack he was put in did not have working air conditioning. He informed me that the temperature in his room was about 92 degrees. But as the sun started to set the temperature started to drop to about 80. But it was still a warm one! He has since then been moved into another barrack where the air conditioning works a little better, but he said they are forecasting a heat wave to come through that area during this next week!
He is having to have more medical screenings done today, so that means he'll be getting a few more shots and tests done to make sure he's healthy enough to continue on through his deployment. He was also informed that he won't be able to wear his contacts while over seas, so he will be given some glasses to wear. He isn't exactly looking forward to that annoyance, but he's glad they aren't the typical glasses that the state of Iowa issues that are the size of safety glasses :P But I suppose that with how dry it is going to be and all the sand blowing around over there, having contacts would probably get to be just as much of an annoyance!
So far things are going well for him considering it all. And thankfully he's been able to get a decent amount of sleep as well before having to get up for his early mornings! He is SO thankful for all the support and prayers everyone is providing for him while he is gone and also for me while I am still at home. We can already see God's hand in this experience, and we know He's going to do some amazing things through it! :)
