Saying Goodbye

On Monday we said goodbye to Purdie. We decided that it was just best if we found a new home for her because we are both too allergic to her anymore. It wasn't because she was too hard to take care of or that we just didn't want her here anymore, she was just too hard on our allergies. I got Purdie when I was in 2nd grade and have had her ever since. That's 15 years, and would have been 16 this coming October. For as old as she is, she was still extremely healthy. She even still managed to chase Tilly around the apartment while growling and hissing at her to show her who was boss. Of course Tilly always just thought that was a fun game to play and would continue to bark and Purdie just to be chased around! :)

We didn't have anyone we knew that we could give Purdie to, so we emailed the Animal Rescue League of Iowa and explained the whole situation to them and asked what we should do. Being that she was still perfectly healthy there was no sense in just having her put down. The people at ARL told us to bring her in and that they would do everything they could to make her comfortable until they could find a new home for her. I had to have AJ bring her there while I was at work because that was not something I would have been able to do. And when he got home I couldn't do anything but cry, and it has been a rough past couple of days. The only thing I can think about is that I don't know how she's doing. I really hope that she can find a great home and be happy for the next few years of her life.

Purdie was a great cat and family member over the past 15 years, and it was really hard to see her go, but we knew it was what was best.
